The scope of the journal includes, but is not limited to, the following fields: sociology, psychology, anthropology, economics, management, political science, communication studies, education, linguistics, literature, law, art, history, and cultural studies.

Beyond conventional social science fields, SSHA also publishes work in emerging areas such as environmental studies, sustainability, gender studies, interdisciplinary science in data science and social science, area studies, and human rights.
